Deposit before doctor call?

I am speaking with two places about DHI Hair Transplantation for March. One asks for a deposit before I can have a proper doctor review, only coordinator first. Is that normal? I do not mind paying something, but I feel strange paying before they even say how many grafts is realistic.

I would ask for the policy in writing, especially refund rules if the doctor says you are not suitable.

For me they did photo review first, then deposit after I agreed the date. Maybe every clinic is different, but I would not feel comfortable if they refuse even basic medical review before money.
